ATLANTA, GA | March 25, 2019 – 900 volunteers have signed up to help Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) with the region’s biggest trash cleanup of the year, Sweep the Hooch.
Last year, volunteers pulled upwards of 44,000 pounds of trash from and along the Chattahoochee River and its tributaries. This year, a variety of community partners will set out to gather even more in an effort to give back to the river that gives so much. “There are so many people and so much wildlife that depends on this incredible natural resource,” said Tammy Bates, Outings Manager at CRK. “It’s our duty to take care of the Chattahoochee, and Sweep the Hooch empowers everyone to do so.” The event will take place on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at more than 40 cleanup sites with opportunities to walk, wade or paddle. Cleanup sites include:
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (multiple sites)
Georgia State Parks (Sweetwater Creek, Chattahoochee Bend, and Don Carter)
Hardman Farms State Historic Site
Morgan Fall Overlook Park
Moore’s Creek
West Point Lake
Downtown Helen
Lake Lanier Olympic Park
Proctor Creek
Peachtree Creek
McIntosh Reserve Park
Riverview Landing
and more!
All are encouraged to sign up by noon on April 3 to secure your preferred site and volunteer duty. Once a site reaches its capacity, registration for that particular site will close. Individual registration is required, but family, friends, coworkers and neighbors are welcome to sign up as a team to clean up their community together.
